Statement from Debra Gore-Mann, President and CEO of The Greenlining Institute
As we we process the results of this election, I am holding the collective devastation that many of us–especially those who may be directly impacted and communities that have been historically marginalized–are feeling. There is no denying that the incoming Administration poses a profound threat to our communities. But it is in these most trying times that our actions and advocacy are most critical. No matter who is in the Executive office, our fight for a just future will continue because we have yet to achieve the future we deserve.
While there is great uncertainty as to how the low-income communities and communities of color we fight for will be impacted, we stand ready to protect our progress and continue the work of building a future where race is never a barrier to opportunity.
At The Greenlining Institute, we’ve been doing the work of shaping more fair and equitable systems and institutions for decades. Importantly, we are not alone in this work. Within our movement spaces, we have been developing tools, carving out pathways, and building power so we can weather times like these. This is how we will navigate the next four years: with laser focus and renewed commitment, together.
Because we know that progress is not linear. Generations before us have taught us that the arc of the moral universe is long, but it ultimately bends towards justice. Our vision for a just future is part of a longer arc even when we encounter setbacks.
We will never surrender our vision of a just future. The future we want to build is up to us.
