The Greenlining Institute signed onto a letter submitted by 58 equity, environmental justice, community-based, and grassroots organizations and coalitions about how to design tax incentives to ensure that environmental justice communities and low income households can access tax incentive programs through the Inflation Reduction Act. The group recommends that the program provide more opportunities for feedback from environmental justice communities, ensure that the low income solar and wind program provide most benefits to local communities, and ensure greater transparency and accessibility. The group also provided recommendations on how to define financial benefits to reduce energy burdens, protect tenants, and deliver direct benefits to low-income households and communities. The letter provides specific recommendations on the implementation of this part of the Inflation Reduction Act in a way that can meet the goals of Justice40.
