AB 2243 – Occupational safety and health standards: heat illness: wildfire smoke

Requires the Division of Occupational Safety and Health to submit to the Occupational Safety and Health Standards Board, a proposal to revise the heat illness standard to include: an ultrahigh heat and wildfire smoke standard to reduce the Air Quality Index for employees in outdoor workplaces when heat exceeds 105 degrees Fahrenheit. AB 2596 – Lunar New Year holiday

Recognizes the Lunar New Year as a state holiday, and requires that state employees be given paid time off for the holiday. [Bill Text]
SB 1162 – Employment: Salaries and Wages
AUTHORED BY SENATOR LIMÓN
Addresses racial and gender pay inequities by requiring employers with over 100 direct employees, and 100 contract workers to provide a publicly available, annual, disaggregated pay report on subgroups of race, ethnicity, gender and employment type, including contract and direct hires. [Bill Text]
SB 1172 – California Privacy Rights Act of 2020: business: proctoring services
AUTHORED BY SENATOR PAN
Improves digital rights, and the rights of children by limiting the amount of information proctoring companies, in an educational setting, from collecting, retaining, using, or disclosing personal information. Additionally, this bill authorizes a consumer to bring forward a civil action against a business for violating a user’s privacy. [Bill Text]
SB 1173 – Public retirement systems: fossil fuels: divestment
AUTHORED BY SENATORS GONZALEZ AND WIENER
Prohibits the California Public Employees Retirement System and the California State Teachers’ Retirement System from investing in fossil fuel companies by January 1, 2023, and requires the two systems to divest existing investments by July 1, 2027. [Bill Text]
SB 1189 – Biometric information
AUTHORED BY SENATOR WIECKOWSKI
Prohibits private entities from selling, leasing, trading, using for advertising purposes, or otherwise profiting from a person’s biometric information. This ensures that biometric information is used in a responsible manner that prioritizes individual privacy by expanding control over highly personal and sensitive information. [Bill Text]
SB 260 – Climate Corporate Accountability Act
AUTHORED BY SENATOR WIENER
Requires U.S. based companies that do business in California and with revenues in excess of $1 billion to annually report their direct and indirect greenhouse gas emissions. Additionally, requires the California Air Resources Board to develop regulations to guide that submission process, and to issue a report that estimates the emissions reductions necessary to maintain climate change below specified levels and make recommendations for how companies can achieve those reductions.
