The Greenlining Institute is urging the California Privacy Protection Agency (CPPA) to strengthen proposed regulations under the California Consumer Privacy Act to meaningfully protect consumers from algorithmic discrimination. 

Current draft rules dangerously water down critical safeguards, leaving communities—especially communities of color—vulnerable to biased automated decision-making systems. Greenlining calls on the CPPA to close these loopholes, ensure meaningful human oversight, require notice when consumers face life-altering decisions driven by algorithms, and reject industry-driven efforts that prioritize convenience over civil rights. 

California voters demanded real privacy protections when they voted for Proposition 24 and created this agency. It’s time for the CPPA to deliver.
