Comment Letter: Opposing State AI Preemption (Sign-on)

The federal government’s attempt to block all state AI regulations through Trump’s so-called “Big Beautiful Bill” sets a dangerous precedent. This sweeping federal overreach would strip states of their power to protect communities from algorithmic harm, undermine civil rights safeguards, and stall much-needed transparency in high-risk AI applications.
In response, The Greenlining Institute joined a broad national coalition of hundreds of organizations to oppose this power grab. States play a critical role in developing agile, community-responsive protections that can address algorithmic discrimination, privacy risks, and the evolving impacts of AI. We must preserve their authority to lead where federal regulations may fall short.
