LOS ANGELES — Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.), chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, will join an impressive array of government and business leaders and community activists at the Greenlining Institute’s 17th annual Economic Summit, “Rebuilding the American Dream,” taking place in Los Angeles April 9. Frank, who will receive an award and speak at the concluding dinner, has been a major force in shaping financial industry reform legislation now moving through Congress.

“Communities of color know how badly we need tough financial industry reform because our communities have been victimized by some of the most predatory practices,” said Greenlining Institute Executive Director Orson Aguilar. “Wall Street can defend itself just fine, but the rest of us need Congress and the president to stand up to Wall Street, and we’ll be telling Congressman Frank that his efforts have our full support.”  The day-long event in downtown Los Angeles is a unique forum that brings top business and political leaders together with grassroots community activists. A series of presentations will examine how to restore the American promise of prosperity for all at a time when the cost of higher education is skyrocketing, home ownership is imperiled by rising foreclosure rates, and unemployment is rising for African-Americans and Latinos even as it has stabilized overall. In addition to Chairman Frank, speakers will include Verizon CEO Ivan Seidenberg, California Public Utilities Commission President Michael Peevey, Bank of America Home Loans President Barbara Desoer, California Endowment President and CEO Dr. Robert Ross, and Los Angeles City Councilmember Richard Alarcon.

The program begins at 9:15 a.m., and the complete schedule is available at
